Dr. Ellen Stevenson - Psychiatrist
Dr. Ellen Stevenson has been involved in clinical care, education and administration at Columbia University Medical Center for over three decades. She formerly oversaw all clinical activity in Psychiatry at NewYork Presbyterian Hospital/ Columbia University Medical Center. One of her most satisfying projects has been developing and running a unique system of mental health care for the N.Y.P.D. and F.B.I. that began shortly after the terrorist attacks. Dr. Stevenson served on the Admissions Committee for Columbia Medical School as well as a variety of other administrative committees. She maintains a private practice of Psychotherapy and psychopharmacolgy, specializing in affective disorders, anxiety disorders, marital issues, parenting children with learning or behavioral problems and incorporates a variety of treatment strategies in her approach to patients.

Dr. Stevenson is not only dedicated to providing exceptional clinical care but also to serving the community through innovative programs. As the founder and director of the COPE program, Dr. Stevenson spearheaded a service that provided free treatment to thousands of members of the NYPD and FBI in the aftermath of 9/11. This initiative continued for the next decade, thanks to the support of private donations and federal and city grants.

Academic Background
With a strong background in emergency psychiatry, Dr. Stevenson brings invaluable expertise in managing acute mental health crises. A graduate of Barnard College, Dr. Stevenson was elected to Phi Beta Kappa before attending Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Stevenson completed a psychiatry residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and the New York State Psychiatric Institute, solidifying a foundation of knowledge and clinical skill that informs her practice today.
Personal Interests
Outside of psychiatry, Dr. Stevenson enjoys reconnecting with nature through skiing, kayaking, swimming, and other outdoor activities. Born and raised in upper Manhattan, Dr. Stevenson values the sense of community and connection to the city that shaped her upbringing.
